First Internet Exchange Point established in Thimphu – Kuensel
Internet experience in the country is expected to be faster and cost saving with the launch of the first Internet exchange point in the country called Bhutan Internet exchange (btIX) in Thimphu.
btIX is a physical Internet infrastructure through which Internet service provider and content delivery networks exchange local traffic locally through the point. Continue reading

An official launch of Bhutan Internet Exchange (btIX) was inaugurated by Hon’ble Lyonpo Karma Donnen Wangdi, Ministry of Information & Communications on 8th, January 2019 at Thimphu TechPark, Babesa. K.Root Server operated by RIPE NCC has now joined btIX as a special member and the K.Root Server Instance is now live at btIX from 28th Dec 2018. btIX held its first Annual General Meeting on 3rd December 2018
Bhutan Internet Exchange held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 3rd December 2018. Five of the Seven members were physically present for the AGM.
The Chairman of Bhutan Internet Exchange, Mr. Ganga R Dhungyel, presented the Annual Report to the Board and Members. Summarizing the report at the end, Mr. Dhungyel informed the meeting that during the last one year, Bhutan Internet Exchange has succeeded in operationalizing the IX and this would not have been possible without the cooperation and support of the members.
